O GOD, OF ALL THY WARRIORS LORD


1 O God, of all Thy warriors Lord;
Their lot, and crown of their rewards:
Do us from bond of sin set free,
Who sing Thy martyr's victory.
2 For this Thy soldier knew the worth
Of all the cheating joys of earth,
And passing poisoned pleasures by,
He won to Thee Who watch on high.
3 Yet, more than fasts this witness bore,
For joys that last forevermore;
For Thee Who are the only good,
In pains he bravely shed his blood.
4 Now at his pray'r, most Holy Lord,
And by his triumph, won by sword,
We beg Thy pardon and Thy peace;
From hurt of sin our soul's release.
